Ex-security chief on Gavar incident: Police, as law enforcement agency, fails today
Former Director of the Armenian National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan took to Twitter on Wednesday to decry the incident in the town of Gavar of Armenia’s Gegharkunik Province, blaming the authorities’ ‘incompetent management’ for it.
"The developments that took place in Gavar yesterday fully testify to the fact that as a result of Nikol Pashinyan's incompetent management, the police, as a law enforcement agency, simply fails under current conditions,” he tweeted.
A report by Armlur media outlet alleged that a group of men armed with knives stormed the hospital in the town and slit the throats of two men wounded in shootings on the Gavar highway in which two of the attackers’ relatives had been killed. After the murder, they allegedly fled the scene.
According to the report, Police Chief Arman Sargsyan was at the hospital during the attack.
In a statement later on Wednesday, police refuted the reports that the police chief was at the hospital during the incident and two hospitalized men were killed.
A criminal case has been launched into the shootings, police said, promising to provide updates on the incident.
