Domestic violence cases decrease in Armenia amid coronavirus control measures
Decline in domestic violence cases is observed in March in Armenia amid the COVID-19 lockdowns, Panorama.am learnt from the data provided by the Police. According to the source, Armenia’s domestic violence statistics dropped three times in March to compare with January and two times to compare with February data of the ongoing year. It is noted that no murder case has been registered in the reporting period.
The published data suggest that since January 2020, 33 assault cases have been recorded, among them one case of infliction of willful medium-gravity damage to health, two cases of infliction of willful light damage to health and 30 cases of battery.
It is notable that the Armenian statistics come amid reports from international watchdogs that domestic violence cases have flourished worldwide in the conditions created by the pandemic and imposed isolation measures.
The Police of Armenia reports in total 66 domestic violence cases in the period of January-March 2020 to compare with 128 reported cases in 2019.
