Speaker: One parliament employee suspected to have had contact with coronavirus case
One of the employees of the Armenian National Assembly is suspected to have had contact with a person with COVID-19, Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan said at the parliament on Wednesday.
His remarks came in response to a question by Bright Armenia MP Edmon Marukyan about the reason for distributing face masks and gloves to deputes.
“As the circumstances have not yet been fully clarified, we are all tightening security measures,” the speaker explained.
Highlighting that face masks and gloves are said to prevent the spread of the infection to a certain extent, Mirzoyan said, at the same time, it’s up to lawmakers to wear them.
Also, the speaker reiterated that those MPs who have concerns about their and their relatives’ health may not attend parliament sessions, with their absences to be considered justified.
Mirzoyan said the coronavirus crisis will continue for a long time, while they cannot paralyze the work of the National Assembly, stating he will come to work “until the last day”.
"By saying ‘until the end’, I meant until humanity overcomes the crisis," Mirzoyan said in response to a question from an MP.
