Defense team to submit motion on changing Kocharyan’s preventive measure under former PMs’ personal guarantees
The court hearing in the trail of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan and three other former senior officials Armen Gevorgyan, Seyran Ohanyan and Yuri Khachaturov is scheduled for tomorrow.
As Kocharyan’s defense team said in a released statement, they would submit a motion to change the ex-president’s preventive measure from arrest under personal guarantee offered by four former prime ministers.
To remind, former ex-premiers of Armenia Vazgen Manukyan, Khosrov Harutyunyan, Karen Karapetyan as well as former PM of Artsakh Republic Anushavan Danielyan earlier expressed readiness to appear in court and provide personal guarantees to change the detention measure for Kocharyan currently held in custody.
To remind, Kocharyan is charged with overthrowing Armenia’s constitutional order during the March 1-2, 2008 post-election events in Yerevan. The ex-president strongly denies the charges and considers the criminal persecution ‘politically motivated.’
