Ambulance received no calls from Armenian parliament after brawl, head says
The Ambulance Service has received no calls from the Armenian National Assembly after a brawl between opposition lawmakers on Friday.
“No, we have not received any calls,” Director of Ambulance CJSC Taguhi Stepanyan told Panorama.am.
The brawl broke out in the parliament while opposition Bright Armenia faction head Edmon Marukyan was addressing lawmakers and cabinet members.
The dispute erupted between the opposition MP and My Step faction deputy Sasun Mikayelyan, after which the latter approached the MP as he was leaving the parliament floor and hit Marukyan, with a fighting ensued.
Dozens of legislators, as well as deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan tried to pull the MPs apart, which turned into a big clash. The lawmakers also traded insults and swear words.
Parliament Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan tried to calm down the brawling lawmakers, eventually announcing a break.
However, the tensions remained high, with the MPs heared further shouting insults. Mirzoyan asked the parliament’s security officers to intervene in the dispute.
