Police forcefully dispersed protesters outside the Central Bank
Armenian police used force to clear a demonstration outside the Central Bank of Armenia after a standoff with citizens protesting against the operation of credit organizations and the high interest rates.
Some of the demonstrators were roughed, others detained and taken to police stations in vehicles after the demands to clear the entrance doors of the building were rejected. Some protesters engaged in scuffles with law enforcement officers.
The participants of the demonstration had asked for a meeting with the representatives of the Bank and the lack of regulations by the Bank on the operation of credit organizations.
Earlier, the protesters had asked the police to lock the doors of the Bank to prevent employees from going outside. Later, the Central Bank representatives agreed to receive two representatives of the protest behind the doors that was rejected by protesters.
Following the police operation, the protesters agreed to gather on Wednesday in front of the Government building.
