Leader of opposition party invited to Special Investigation Service over parliament brawl
The leader of Armenian opposition “Bright Armenia” fraction at parliament Edmon Marukyan has been invited to Special Investigation Service on Wednesday. Marukyan posted the document on Facebook, adding the case refers to the brawl which erupted in the National Assembly on Friday.
As reported earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia examined the footage of the brawl and sent the materials to the Special Investigation Service.
To remind, the brawl broke out in the parliament while opposition Bright Armenia faction head Edmon Marukyan was addressing lawmakers and cabinet members. After a dispute with the latter, My Step faction MP Sasun Mikayelyan approached Marukyan as he was leaving the parliament floor and hit him, followed by a fight. Dozens of legislators, as well as deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan tried to pull the MPs apart, which turned into a big clash. The lawmakers also traded insults and swear words.
During the brawl, two other My Step lawmakers, Artak Manukyan and Vahe Ghalumyan, too, hit Marukyan in the head.
