Health authorities in Armenia take note of WHO recommendation on coronavirus hydroxychloroquine trial
The Ministry of Health in Armenia discusses the recent decision by the World Health Organization (WHO) to temporarily suspend testing of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment for COVID-19.
“We are examining the rcommendation. Once there is a final decision, it would be communicated to the public,” Spokeswoman at the Ministry of Health Alina Nikoghosyan told Panorama.am.
To remind, in recent announcement by the global organization, Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus cited data published by The Lancet journal, which showed autoimmune therapies hydroxychloroquine or chloroquinedid not conclusively show in-hospital outcome benefits for coronavirus patients.
Armenian Health Minister Arsen Torosyan informed in March that limited number of patients in Armenia had been treated with hydroxychloroquine.
“It is too early to make final conclusions as the drug was tested on few patients. We are following the international scientific news and are in contact with colleagues from Italy, China and US to see the results of large number clinical trials,” the minister had said then.
