Lawyer: Yerevan appellate court overturns lower court ruling to arrest Mikayel Minasyan
The Yerevan Criminal Court of Appeals, presided over by judge Sergey Marabyan, has overturned a lower court ruling to arrest former Armenian Ambassador to the Vatican Mikayel Minasyan, one of his lawyers, Mihran Poghosyan said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
Judge Artush Gabrielyan of the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction approved on 6 May an arrest warrant for the former diplomat, a decision decried by his lawyers as ‘extremely unlawful’.
“Ask any lawyer, prosecutor or investigator about the difference between Sergey Marabyan and Artush Gabrielyan and you will understand the difference between the two mentioned judicial acts both in terms of lawfulness and justice,” he wrote.
“It is indisputable that the county’s authorities will not put up with this situation and will bring a new but equally ungrounded and unlawful accusation against Mikayel Minasyan in a few days, filing a new motion to the court to arrest him.
“P.S. Try to fabricate such an “accusation” for my dear colleagues not to be ashamed of defending you in court in the future," the lawyer wrote.
