Armenian PM introduces new NSS, police chiefs to staffs
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan introduced on Tuesday new Director of the National Security Service (NSS), Colonel Argishti Kyaramyan to the command staff of the law enforcement agency.
The prime minister first thanked former NSS chief Edurad Martirosyan, noting that he took office and performed his duties in a rather difficult period.
"Of course, the NSS is a powerful, well-established and dynamic structure, but we must state that the challenges and the pace and quality of their response need to constantly improve,” the premier said. “I have set this very task before Mr. Kyaramyan so that the NSS can more effectively respond to the challenges facing the field of security,” he added.
Afterwards, Pashinyan introduced new Chief of Police, Colonel Vahe Ghazaryan to the staff. He lauded the police role in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
“Today our biggest challenge, which is an additional function for the police, is the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, in the past three months the police carried out major work and consumed a lot of energy as a result of it. The quality of the police operation will keep playing a key role in combatting the pandemic in the future,” Pashinyan said, highlighting the need to step up the police efforts in the Covid-19 fight and enforcement of the safety rules.
He expressed hope the pandemic will be overcome sooner or later, but the functions of the police, according to the PM, continue to be crucial for all situations. Pashinyan stressed that the police uniform must infuse a sense of respect and protection among citizens.
