Armenian parliament votes to strip Gagik Tsarukyan of immunity from prosecution
Armenian lawmakers voted to strip Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the second largest fraction in parliament of immunity from prosecution on Tuesday, moving to push through the criminal proceedings against him sought by the country’s Prosector General’s Office.
The motion was approved by 87 in favor and 0 against votes cast by lawmakers of the ruling My Step fraction.
The lifting of the immunity of Gagik Tsarukyan is sought over two criminal proceedings, including conducting unlicensed gambling activities and bribing voters during the 2017 parliamentary elections, according to the press office of the Prosecutor’s General office.
Two opposition fractions Prosperous Armenia Party and Bright Armenia parliamentary factions didn’t take part in the voting, describing the process as politically motivated.
