The Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received on Saturday the acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Armenia Ashot Khachatryan. As the press service at the National Assembly reported, Speaker Mirzoyan informed Khachatryan that constitutional amendments entered into force on June 27 and the powers of three judges were suspended after completion of 12-year term in office as of 26 June 2020.
The Speaker informed that as provided by Part 4, Article 213 of the Constitution, the powers of Hrayr Tovmasyan has been terminated as the Chairman of the Constitutional Court and the Chairman’s duties will be temporarily implemented by the oldest judge of the Court. As Khachatryan is the oldest judge of the Court as of June 26 2020, Ararat Mirzoyan congratulated him on assuming the duties of the acting Chairman of the Court.
Khachatryan, in turn, assured in the post of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court he would ensure the supremacy of the Constitution, its independence and impartiality.
