French-Armenian Jeanne Barseghian elected Strasbourg mayor
French politician and environmentalist of Armenian descent Jeanne Barseghian has been elected mayor of Strasbourg, France.
Barseghian, a member of France's Green party, garnered 42.5% of the vote in the second round of municipal elections on Sunday, France3 reported.
The turnout in Strasbourg elections was historically low at 26.38%.
Jeanne Barseghian is the great granddaughter of Berdjouhi Barseghian, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) who was elected to the Armenian parliament during the first Republic of Armenia in July 1919.
