Lawyer on Armenia’s ruling majority: Now they have to correct their ‘sloppy work’
The crime report field to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia includes facts about violations concerning the Constitutional Court, starting from the election of Vahe Grigoryan as a judge of the top court, his self-proclamation as Constitutional Court chairman to the latest constitutional amendments on early retirement scheme of judges, lawyer, Homeland Party member Arsen Babayan told reporters on Tuesday.
The working group set up by the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), Homeland Party and Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF, Dashnaktsutyun) party reported a crime to the Prosecutor General’s Office on Tuesday morning, requesting the law enforcement agency to launch a criminal case into “usurpation of power and overthrow of the constitutional order” committed by legislators and other top officials.
The report also includes facts about the criminal cases involving Constitutional Court Chairman Hrayr Tovmasyan and his godsons, as well as the police pressure on the judges of Armenia’s highest court, Babayan said.
"They were followed by the constitutional amendments [passed by the ruling majority on June 22]. As you know, now they have to correct their sloppy work at today's special session, as the envisaged changes to the constitutional law on the Constitutional Court have failed to be made," the lawyer added.
He stated that these processes were coupled with other offences detailed in the report.
