Pashinyan: Azerbaijani special forces sought to capture Armenian border position
The Azerbaijani special forces sought to seize an Armenian border position known as Anvakh (Fearless) during the attempted incursion at night, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
The position is located in the direction of the villages of Movses and Aygepar in Tavush Province, which have been at the center of developments in recent days, Pashinyan said.
The Azerbaijani military began shelling the villages using mortars and a D-30 howitzer after the 100-member Azerbaijani group was pushed back in a fierce battle, suffering casualties, the PM added.
In parallel, the Azerbaijani troops launched attacks on the positions close to Anvakh, but the Armenian forces confidently repulsed all the attacks and took the situation under full control.
“There are no casualties among Armenian servicemen or civilians,” Pashinyan said, adding Azerbaijan has shelled the villages of Movses, Aygepar, Chinari and Nerkin Karmiraghbyur in recent days, damaging civilian infrastructure and houses.
The PM says he has tasked the relevant bodies to assess the damages caused to the villages.
