Azerbaijan threatens to strike Metsamor nuclear power plant in Armenia
The head of the press service at the Azerbaijani defense ministry Vagif Dargahli has threatened to attack the Metsamor nuclear power plant in Armenia.
According to Azerbaijani media reports, Dargahli’s remarks came at a request to comment on the possibile attack at Mingachevir reservoir in the northwestern Azerbaijan.
“The Armenian side should not forget that our advance missile systems are able to precisely hit Metsamor nuclear power plant which may result in catastrophe for Armenia,” Dargahli said as quoted by local sources.
The defense ministry official noted that air defense systems in Azerbaijan are capable to protect Mingachevir reservoir in the event of necessity.
To note, the Geneva Declaration on Terrorism adopted in 1987 clearly states that the armed attack by the military forces of a state on targets that put at risk the civilian population residing in another state constitutes an act of state terrorism.
