Armenian expert hails U.S. House passage of Artsakh aid amendment
Armenian political analyst Suren Sargsyan has lauded the U.S. House’s adoption of an amendment to continue demining assistance to Artsakh as the victory of all Armenians.
“Another victory in the ‘resolution’ war game! The Artsakh de-mining program was approved,” he said on Facebook.
Azerbaijan actively worked against the pro-Armenian measure in different directions, the analyst said, stating the chances for preserving this program are very high now.
"This is an exceptional victory for our people taking into account the fact that the U.S. Security Council was actively working with Azerbaijanis to terminate the program.
"There is still much work to be done in the Senate, and I am confident the two Armenian organizations will successfully deal with it,” he added.
The Artsakh amendment calls for $1.4 million in U.S. aid for the continuing life-saving de-mining efforts of The HALO Trust.
Continued aid to Artsakh to support demining and rehabilitation efforts has been a key part of the ANCA’s 360-degree policy priorities to ensure Artsakh security and freedom. Through ANCA-supported Congressionally-mandated U.S. assistance, The HALO Trust has been de-mining in Artsakh since 2001.
