MP urges Diaspora Armenians not to succumb to Azerbaijani provocations
MP Edmon Marukyan from the opposition Bright Armenia Party urged Armenians living abroad not to succumb to Azerbaijani provocations.
His comments came after Armenians were attacked by Azerbaijani groups in Moscow on Thursday night.
Marukyan cautioned Diaspora Armenians against being involved in street brawl, stating physical violence "cannot be a means of expression for us.”
“I call on our compatriots in the Diaspora not to succumb to provocations and not to get involved in provoked ethnic clashes. It is an unacceptable and destructive practice,” he said on Facebook.
“It is necessary to show restraint, keep calm and record once and for all that there is only one place intended for the use of force, the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, where our soldiers and commanders defend our homeland and, if necessary, use force to impose peace.
"I call on the diplomatic representatives of the Republic of Armenia to launch hotlines in embassies and consulates to collect the data of our compatriots who were subjected to violence in the wake of attacks by Azerbaijanis and initiate legal proceedings in compliance with the given country’s legislation, providing the necessary legal and other assistance to our compatriots,” the lawmaker said.
