Armenia’s Demanding Applicant initiative files two lawsuits in court
The legal team of the Demanding Applicant initiative featuring Armenian high school graduates who received positive and high scores in the joint exams but were not admitted to universities, as well as their parents filed two lawsuits in the Yerevan Administrative Court on Wednesday, July 29.
The situation emerged because of new regulations by the education ministry, which were only passed a month and a half before the start of admissions exams.
Alexander Kochubayev, the head of the legal team, said one of the claims demands the court to recognize the government’s decision invalid by declaring it illegal.
The second lawsuit demands that the application of the procedure to individual applicants be declared invalid and the applicants be rehabilitated.
According to the lawyer, many different rights have been violated, as a result of which they have prepared and filed in the court a separate claim for each applicant. The case concerns around 100 applicants, he said.
The legal team also petitioned the court to apply a claim security measure to temporarily secure the lawsuits, which will allow the applicants to be granted a student status until September 1 when the court issues a final ruling on the matter.
