Pashinyan: We have a chance to overcome coronavirus situation
The situation in Armenia related to the coronavirus pandemic continues to improve, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said after a meeting at the Commandant’s Office on Wednesday.
"On August 4, for the first time since June 4, the number of active coronavirus cases were below 8,000. We are close to the level of the cases recorded at the end of May. But there is also bad news," the PM said, stressing that citizens have started not following the coronavirus rules.
"Our citizens have started to use the decline in the tally as an excuse not to comply with anti-epidemiological rules. There is even a situation where many people think that the coronavirus crisis has been overcome,” the PM said, stating although the country’s daily new cases of Covid-19 have dropped compared to July, the 288 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours remain a large number.
According to Pashinyan, if people fail to properly abide by the rules, the country will return to the situation recorded in early July.
The PM believes the coronavirus fight can be effective with the effective cooperation between the government and citizens. The mandatory rule to wear face masks in both open and closed areas, as well as the fines for those who flout it will remain in force.
"We have a chance to overcome the situation," he added.
