11 Armenians killed in Beirut blast – Arevelk
11 Armenians were confirmed dead in the massive explosion in Lebanon’s capital Beirut on Wednesday, Arevelk newspaper reported. Earlier 6 Armenians had been reported dead in the tragic incident.
Another 250 Armenians were injured in the wake of the blast that rocked the port of Beirut on Tuesday, the paper said.
The deceased lived in different parts of Beirut, but were in the city center, which is very close to the port, at the moment of explosion.
Some Armenians are still missing, the newspaper said.
The overall death toll from the explosion rose to at least 135 on Wednesday with more than 4,000 others injured.
President Michel Aoun said the blast was caused by 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored unsafely in a warehouse.
A two-week state of emergency has been declared in Beirut.
