Lukashenko denies rumors he is abroad
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday that he is "alive and is not abroad." He was speaking at a meeting on the work of the construction industry, according to TASS.
"To begin with, I am still alive and not abroad, as some ‘well-informed’ people here say - ‘the president has left the country and is abroad.’ Today, on August 14, we are meeting to discuss the work of the construction industry," BelTA news agency quotes him as saying.
Alexander Lukashenko claimed a sixth term in office in an election last Sunday, triggering mass protests in Belarus. Two protesters have reportedly died in the unrest. Hundreds of people have been injured and thousands detained.
