Armavir resident arrested for allegedly manufacturing and selling poisonous homemade alcohol
Police have arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly manufacturing and selling counterfeit alcohol in Armavir following the reports that 11 people had died from “alcohol intoxication” over the past day.
As the Police of Armenia reports, from August 31 to September 1, 10 people were admitted to Armavir Medical Center with the diagnosis of “alcohol intoxication”. Later three of them died in hospital. In addition, four citizens from Yerevan applied to Armenia Medical Center after experiencing the same symptoms. Their lives could not be saved too.
According to the preliminary data, the citizens were poisoned after drinking an illegal homemade alcohol bought from 50-year-old Armavir resident Ashot Hovsepyan. The latter has been arrested by Police.
Charges have been brought against him on selling products failing to meet safety requirements. As part of the criminal investigation law enforcement officers have seized some 200 litersres of illegal homemade alcohol from his house.
As the source said, measures are underway to reveal all citizens who have bought the alcohol and take out the whole batch of circulation.
