11 people die from alcohol poisoning in Armenia
Eleven people have died from alcohol poisoning in Armenia, while several others have been taken to hospital, the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.
From August 31 to September 1, 10 people were admitted to Armavir Medical Center with the diagnosis of “alcohol intoxication”. Later three of them died in hospital.
Four of them were transferred to Armenia Republican Medical Center, but they died in hospital too, the health authorities said. One of the patients was moved to the rehabilitation unit of Erebuni Medical Center and is in critical condition now.
Two of the patients at Armenia Medical Center are in serious condition, doctors say. They are receiving intensive care.
Another resident of Armavir Province applied to Armenia Medical Center with the same symptoms, but later refused medical treatment and was discharged.
In addition, four citizens from Yerevan applied to Armenia Medical Center after experiencing the same symptoms. Their lives could not be saved too.
One patient with suspected poisoning is in the rehabilitation unit of Heratsi No. 1 Hospital Complex, the ministry said.
A total of eleven deaths from alcohol intoxication have been confirmed so far. The data are preliminary and epidemiological research is being carried out, the ministry added, promising to provide updates on the health condition of the victims.
