Gagik Khachatryan’s nephew to remain under arrest
Former Armenian Finance Minister Gagik Khachatryan’s nephew Karen Khachatryan will remain in custody as a court in Yerevan on Wednesday denied the defense request to change his measure of restraint.
Karen Khachatryan’s lawyer Amram Makinyan had filed a motion to the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by judge Artur Mkrtchyan, to release his client, arguing there were no legal grounds for his arrest.
Karen Khachatryan, who used to run an internal security division of the State Revenue Committee, has been charged with large-scale waste of public funds and official forgery. The former finance minister has been charged as part of the same criminal case as well.
