Armenian parliament kicks off special sitting with new MP in attendance
The Armenian National Assembly started a special sitting on Friday in attendance of a new lawmaker from the opposition Bright Armenia faction.
MPs are set to debate the package of draft amendments to the law on ensuring sanitary-epidemic safety of the Armenian population, that would allow the authorities to continue imposing coronavirus restrictions without again extending the state of emergency.
At the beginning of the sitting, Speaker Ararat Mizoyan thanked Bright Armenia MP Mane Tandilyan, who resigned last month, for joint work and invited her replacement, Stepan Stepanyan, to take the floor to swear in.
Stepanyan secured the second highest number of votes after Tandilyan in the rating system of the 2018 snap parliamentary elections.
