Pashinyan: Reopening schools poses biggest risk to positive trend in coronavirus fight
The reopening of schools across Armenia poses the highest risk to the positive trend in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the near future, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a cabinet meeting on Thursday, recalling that less than 200 cases a day have been recorded in the past 20 days.
Also, the premier stressed the number of active cases has significantly dropped below 3,000.
The positive test rate hovers between 5 percent to 8 percent now, while the number of daily coronavirus tests remain high, he added.
Pashinyan next addressed public concerns over the reopening of schools, adding some decisions made by the government have not been unanimously approved by the people.
In particular, one of them concerns the mandatory rule to wear face masks at schools, the prime minister said, stressing he is surprised by some comments on the matter.
“The decisions that are adopted concern not only others’, but also our children. Our children are not privileged in schools, kindergartens or elsewhere," the premier said.
Pashinyan assured that they will conduct a monitoring and make appropriate decisions so that school children can breathe fully.
