Armenia replaces state of emergency with four-month quarantine
The Armenian government adopted on Friday a decision to introduce a four-month quarantine in the country until January 11, 2021 to replace the state of emergency declared in mid-March to fight against coronavirus.
The quarantine measures allow the authorities to keep in place safety rules and restrictions and impose nationwide or local lockdowns if necessary.
The decision has been made taking into account the fact that the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak a global pandemic in March 2020 and the situation remains tense throughout the world.
The decision is also based on a WHO warning about a possible second wave of the pandemic and seeks to protect people's health through appropriate preventive and anti-epidemic measures.
Armenia has recorded 45,503 cases of coronavirus and 909 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
