Armenian military unit to take part in 'Caucasus-2020' drills
A military unit of the Armenian Armed Forces left for Russia to take part in joint military exercises 'Caucasus-2020' along with troops from China, Belarus, Iran, Myanmar, Pakistan and others, the defense ministry announced Wednesday.
Representatives from Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Sri Lanka plan to participate as observers.
The Caucasus 2020 strategic command and staff drills are to be held from September 21 to 26 this year, The exercise will involve 4,800 drills of various scope and more than 9,000 scheduled practical combat training exercises.
Overall about 80,000 people are expected to be involved in the exercise. The Russian defense ministry had earlier informed that up to 250 tanks, up to 450 mechanized infantry fighting vehicles and APCs, as well as up to 200 artillery systems and multiple-launch rocket systems will be used in the exercise on firing grounds.
