Armenian parliament rejects no-confidence motion against education minister
The Armenian National Assembly voted down a motion of no-confidence against Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arayik Harutyunyan at a session on Thursday.
Lawmakers voted 35 to 84 to reject the motion pushed through the parliament by the opposition Bright Armenia faction.
The motion would have asked the prime minister to consider sacking the minister.
Harutyunyan was not present at the session, which incurred the displeasure of Bright Armenia faction head Edmon Marukyan.
"The motion ends with a vote and he should have been present,” Marukyan noted.
In response, Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan said that the minister had found it inexpedient for him to attend the session despite any outcome of the vote, citing his heavy workload.
“I think it made no sense, Mr. Marukyan,” Mirzoyan added.
Bright Armenia disapproves Harutyunyan’s reforms agenda, stating he has mismanaged his areas of responsibility.
