Armenia slightly improves standing on World Bank’s Human Capital Index
Armenia has slightly improved its standing on the World Bank’s Human Capital Index (HCI), which measures the amount of human capital that a child born today can expect to attain by age 18.
The country’s overall HCI value is 0.58 (it was 0.57 in 2018), which means that a child born in Armenia today will be 58 percent as productive when she grows up as she could be if she enjoyed complete education and full health.
This is lower than the average for Europe and Central Asia region (0.69) but higher than the average for upper middle income countries.
In Armenia, the HCI for girls is higher than for boys. The ratio in HCI between the richest and poorest 20 percent of the population in the country is 1.17.
