Tsarukyan urges government to give benefits to students amid pandemic
Leader of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), MP Gagik Tsarukyan calls on the Armenian authorities to give benefits to university students and pay part of their tuition.
Parents of many students have become unemployed because of the coronavirus pandemic, and now they cannot afford paying for tuition, Tsarukyan underlined at a meeting with the PAP Student Council on Friday.
“How can a parent, who hasn’t worked for six months and can hardly make ends meet, pay for tuition especially when it has increased?” he said.
The PAP leader also recalled his June 5 statement that Armenia would be facing a famine in a few months, adding that some ruling faction MPs, who have not met with people to get to know their social conditions, state that his predictions proved wrong.
“People are crying as they have no money to buy medicine or send their children back to school. Come on! What does a famine look like then?
The opposition figure stressed that he has repeatedly presented various solutions to the Armenian authorities to handle the current situation and overcome the economic crisis.
