Police investigating abuse claims at Yerevan orphanage
Police are probing the allegations of physical and mental abuse at an orphanage in the Armenian capital of Yerevan.
In a statement on Tuesday, police said they have opened an investigation after receiving reports that employees of the orphanage are beating and insulting the children at the institution.
The probe has revealed that the children “were deprived of minimal living conditions and personal hygiene items” for a long period of time. Moreover, the staff of the orphanage beat the minors with sticks and hands under various pretexts, causing them physical pain and mental suffering, police said.
A criminal case has been launched.
The preliminary investigation is underway.
