Constitutional Court to elect a new President tomorrow
The Constitutional Court didn't discuss agenda issues during its Wednesday session,- the election of the new President and the Vice-President, Judge of Constitutional Court Edgar Shatiryan told reporters after the session.
In Shatiryan's words, the session will continue on Thursday. He added that after long discussions a decision was made to make a video recording of the session by the Court respective department without presence of the media representatives. The working session of the Constitutional Court was attended by all 9 Judges, Shatiryan in formed.
To remind, the Constitutional Court was set to elect its new President and Vice-President after the election of new Judges by the National Assembly.
To note, a candidate nominated by judges or by self-nomination, who has received two-thirds of the votes of judges of the Constitutional Court, may be elected as the President, and in the case when one candidate is nominated, s/he shall be elected by a majority of the total number of judges of the Constitutional Court. If none of the two or more nominated candidates by the results of the vote receives the required number of votes, then a second round of elections shall be held within five days, where two candidates who receive the majority of votes in the first round shall participate. The candidate who receives the majority of votes of judges of the Constitutional Court shall be considered elected after the second round of elections.
