Situation relatively calm in southern section of Artsakh-Azerbaijan border, Artsrun Hovhannisyan says
The military operations continue along the entire line of contact between Artsakh and Azerbaijan, Armenian Defense Ministry representative Artsrun Hovhannisyan told a briefing on Monday.
He said that the most active combat actions are taking place in the northern and southern sections of the Artsakh frontline.
"As we said this morning, Azerbaijan has launched new massive artillery attacks, which the Armenian forces are successfully repelling, inflicting significant losses to the adversary," he said.
He reminded that the Artsakh Defense Ministry had recently released a video showing how Azerbaijan’s large-scale offensive operations in the southern direction were repulsed by Armenian tank units. During the failed attack, the Azerbaijani forces lost 10 to 11 units of armored vehicles, mostly tanks, he said.
"The Azerbaijani forces have been pushed back to the starting positions and right now the situation is relatively calm in that direction, only light battles are underway. Fighting continues in other directions," Hovhannisyan said.
Also, he said that the civilian settlements in northern Artsakh, particularly the town of Martakert and its surrounding communities where reporters were working, have today come under heavy artillery fire.
"The losses of the adversary are being clarified and further information will be provided. New wounded servicemen have been transferred to Armenian hospitals. I would like to say that most of the wounded have light injuries and have rejoined the army after receiving medical care and are fulfilling their military tasks," Hovhannisyan said.
In the early morning of September 27, Azerbaijan launched a massive air and artillery attack on the Artsakh military positions and numerous civilian settlements and infrastructure in the country, including capital Stepanakert. Several civilians, including a child, have been killed by Azerbaijani shelling.
