The fate of not only Armenians, but also the entire region is being determined today, Armenian Defense Ministry representative Artsrun Hovhannisyan said on Saturday.

"Today not only the fate of all of us, but also the fate of the region is being decided," Hovhannisyan said in a post on Facebook.

Earlier on Saturday, Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan issued a message to Armenian servicemen and volunteer fighters, noting that he was heading to the frontline to do his part in the battle.

“The Nation and the Homeland are in danger; the right of living and creating freely, independently and with dignity on the soil liberated at the price of the blood of our brave sons is threatened.

Thus, together with the special units, I am now heading to the frontline to fight my part of war, because now I will be more useful at the frontline than in the rear.

I urge all of you to immediately stand up and with single-minded devotion protect our integral right of living in our own homeland without any risk to our existence.

This is a sacred patriotic war which we should win through the participation and devotion of every single person.

I believe in the courage of your souls and the strength of your arms,” the message read.

Heavy fighting is underway in the northern and southern directions of the Artsakh border, Defense Ministry spokeswoman Shushan Stepanyan said today.

“The adversary, concentrating large forces in these sections, has launched an attack. The Armenian military units are stopping the adversary's advance, causing it huge losses,” she wrote on Facebook.
