Armenia reiterates need for immediate end of hostilities
The Armenian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday reacted to the statement of the foreign ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries.
“Armenia values the statement of the Foreign Ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries, in which the unprecedented massive targeting of the civilian population and infrastructure in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone has been condemned in the strongest terms as an unacceptable threat to the stability of the region.
Armenia reiterates the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities, which the Foreign Ministry of Armenia has already underlined in its statement issued on October 2, 2020.
We once again stress that there is no alternative to the peaceful settlement and the peace process, and any attempt to resolve the conflict by military means will be resolutely averted,” the ministry said in a statement.
In the early morning of September 27, Azerbaijan launched a massive air and artillery attack on the Artsakh military positions, numerous civilian settlements and infrastructure in the country, including the capital Stepanakert, the towns of Martuni, Martakert, Hadrut and Shushi. Artsakh civilians were told to take shelter.
Both Armenia and Artsakh have declared martial law and a general mobilization.
Today, on October 6, ten days after the launch of hostilities, the Armenian Defense Ministry said for the first time that the situation along the line of contact was relatively calm overnight.
