Health minister: Almost all injuries in Artsakh explosion-related
Artsakh doctors and their colleagues from Armenia are sometimes unable to provide medical assistance to people in need amid the Azerbaijani shelling of the capital city of Stepanakert and other Artsakh towns, Armenian Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan told a news conference on Tuesday, adding even ambulances are unable to reach people in need.
"I witnessed a missile hitting an area in close proximity to the Stepanakert Republican Medical Center, rattling the hospital building,” he said, stressing the missile could have struck the hospital itself.
"Our medical staff has the impression that, seeing the objectives of the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan, a direct strike on the Artsakh medical facilities can’t be ruled out, which can be considered a war crime against the civilian population," the minister said.
In Torosian’s words, Azerbaijan is using prohibited weapons to target almost all institutions.
The vast majority, nearly 100% of the wounded civilians and soldiers in Artsakh have suffered explosion injuries, the minister stressed, adding factually this is an aerial, artillery or drone war.
The wounded people have numerous pieces of shrapnel in their bodies,he said, adding the direct force of the blasts have also caused the injuries.
Torosyan assured that both civilian and military hospitals in Artsakh have sufficient medication, medical equipment and blood supply.
In the early morning of September 27, Azerbaijan launched a massive air and artillery attack on the Artsakh military positions, numerous civilian settlements and infrastructure in the country, including the capital Stepanakert, the towns of Martuni, Martakert and Hadrut. Artsakh civilians were told to take shelter.
Both Armenia and Artsakh have declared martial law and a general mobilization.
