Armenia urges Iran to prevent amassing of Azerbaijani troops along its border
The Azerbaijani forces, not having sufficient capabilities of engaging in effective offensive operations, have started to resort to obvious provocations for the second day in a row, the Armenian Defense Ministry representative Artsrun Hovhannisyan said on Wednesday.
“In particular, in the southern direction of the Artsakh-Azerbaijan combat actions, the Azerbaijani units are accumulating in large groups directly at the length of the Artsakh-Iranian border (along the Araks River), and are trying to advance by factually taking refuge in that border,” he wrote on Facebook.
With this tactic, the Azerbaijani side is trying to incite the Artsakh troops to open fire or deliver strikes along the border, factually in the direction of Iran, he said.
“It is also not ruled out that as a result of hostilities, the Azerbaijani units, having no other option, will retreat or flee into the Iranian territory.
"In order to avoid all this, we believe that the Iranian side, which is certainly seeing all this, should prevent or force [the Azerbaijani side] to refrain from such amassing,” Hovhannisyan stressed.
