‘Shame, shame, shame’: Armenians rally outside EU institutions in Brussels
Hundreds of Armenians held a rally in front of the European Union institutions in Brussels on Wednesday morning to raise their voice against the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), which has already spilled into the 11th day.
Representatives of the German and French communities also took part in the protest.
The demonstrations were chanting slogans such as “Erdogan, terrorist!” and “Artsakh is Armenia!”.
They voiced a number of accusations against the European institutions.
“We accuse Europe of staying silent after the aggression of Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh. We accuse Europe after Turkey took part in the conflict to serve its own imperial and geopolitical aims. We accuse Europe after Armenians warned that this war had genocidal aims. We accuse Europe after the intentional bombing of civilians,” said the demonstrators, calling attention to Azerbaijan’s use of prohibited weapons, including cluster bombs, against civilians in Artsakh and Armenia, which is a war crime.
“We accuse Europe after Turkey recruited jihadists from Syria to Azerbaijan to fight the Armenians, as President Macron has already confirmed. We accuse Europe after Israel sold weapons to the Azeris. We accuse Europe after foreign journalists were targeted in the middle of the city while they were doing their job…and finally we accuse Europe of staying silent after this war was started in the middle of the pandemic,” the protesters said. “The European Parliament is not doing what it has to do․ Shame, shame, shame!”
The European Parliament was today set to discuss the resumption of hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.
