Turkish air force controls drone attacks on Artsakh civilians, infrastructure – Defense Ministry
The Turkish air force has again taken over Azerbaijan’s air offensive operations against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), according to Artsrun Hovhannisyan, the official representative of the Armenian Defense Ministry.
“The air command posts of the Turkish air force flying in Turkish airspace are controlling the Turkish UAVs operating within the Azerbaijani Air Force,” Hovhannisyan wrote on Facebook on Sunday.
Escorted by six F-16 fighter jets, the drones are striking the civilian population and infrastructure in Artsakh, he said.
After nearly 11 hours of talks in Moscow sponsored by the Russian foreign minister, the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers agreed to a humanitarian ceasefire in Karabakh starting on Saturday, 12pm, to exchange prisoners and bodies of victims with the facilitation of the International Committee of the Red Cross and in line with its regulations.
In the early morning of September 27, Azerbaijan launched a massive air and artillery attack on the Artsakh military positions, numerous civilian settlements and infrastructure in the country, including the capital city of Stepanakert, the towns of Martuni, Martakert, Shushi and Hadrut.
Artsakh has reported 20 civilian casualties and hundreds of military casualties. Several foreign and local reporters have also been injured in Artsakh as a result of Azerbaijani attacks. Both Armenia and Artsakh have declared martial law and a general mobilization.
