Lavrov: Armenian, Azeri and Russian FMs’ joint statement confirms immutability of negotiation format
The October 10 joint statement of the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian foreign ministers confirms the immutability of the format for Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) peace talks, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on Monday.
“The OSCE Minsk Group comprises a large number of countries, but it has delegated a mediation authority to three co-chairs – Russia, the United States and France,” the top diplomat said, referring to Turkey's role in the peace process.
"We reiterate the inalterability of the negotiation format. At the same time, we have reaffirmed the commitment to a political settlement based on the principles developed with the participation of the co-chairs in our tripartite joint statement. I would like to emphasize that President Aliyev has welcomed the Moscow agreements," Lavrov said.
The Russian foreign minister said that he had been in touch with his Turkish counterpart and told him that they were expecting support to their efforts. On Sunday he held another phone call with Mevlut Cavusoglu, during which the latter confirmed his support to the Moscow document.
"Now they need to be implemented, we are working on it," Lavrov said.
