ICRC hopes for ceasefire observance in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has expressed hope that the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will adhere to the humanitarian truce agreed on 10 October, Martin Schuepp, ICRC Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, told a news briefing in Geneva.
“We hope that the humanitarian ceasefire will be observed and it will greatly mitigate the situation of the affected people,” TASS quoted Schuepp as saying on Tuesday.
At the talks, mediated by Russia and held in Moscow on October 9, Armenia and Azerbaijan had agreed to a humanitarian ceasefire starting at 12pm on Saturday, October 10, to exchange prisoners and recover the bodies of those killed in fighting. However, Azerbaijan violated the humanitarian truce.
