Peskov: Russia checking data on attacked object in Armenia
Russian military agencies are checking data on an affected object in Armenian territory, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Wednesday, according to TASS.
"Our military agencies are verifying this information, they are in constant touch with their colleagues on both sides," the Kremlin representative noted. He reiterated that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu conducted phone conversations with colleagues from Armenia and Azerbaijan. "This information [on the destroyed object in Armenian territory] is being checked and analyzed," the spokesman reiterated.
In response to the question about possible engagement of the CSTO mechanisms in this case, the Kremlin representative proposed to wait for the results of the inquiry.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Armenian Ministry of Defense said the Azerbaijani armed forces had targeted the military equipment on combat alert in the territory of Armenia adjacent to the border with Karvachar.
According to the source, the attack was carried out based on the mere assumption that the subject equipment was allegedly going to strike at Azerbaijan’s civilian settlements.
"It goes without question that this allegation is devoid of any basis. In fact, the politico-military leadership of that country avails itself the right to target military equipment on combat duty in the territory of Armenia on sheer assumptions only," the statement said.
