UNICEF Armenia: Cession of hostilities is in the best interest of every child
UNICEF Armenia has reacted to the Azerbaijani drone attack on Armenia’s Gegharkunik Province, which left a 14-year-old Armenian boy seriously injured.
“We were saddened to learn of the report that a 14-year-old adolescent was severely wounded on his way to the field for harvest in Sotk community, Gegharkunik Province.
“Our hearts go out to all children affected by the ongoing conflict. UNICEF repeats its urgent call for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and reiterates that a cession of hostilities is in the best interest of every child,” the organization said in a statement on Thursday.
“UNICEF is accelerating plans with partners to provide psychosocial and other needed support to affected children,” it said.
Narek Arzoyan and his family were heading to their farm for potato harvest when their car was hit by an Azeri UAV early Wednesday morning. The 14-year-old boy had to be rushed to a Yerevan hospital in serious condition with a shrapnel wounds and is currently in the resuscitation ward.
Armenia’s Health Ministry spokeswoman Alina Nikoghosyan said the boy sustained shrapnel wounds to the chest, left hemopneumothorax, right pneumothorax and abdominal rupture.
