Armenians of Switzerland organize human chain in Geneva in support of Artsakh’s independence
The Armenian community of Switzerland, with the participation of Armenian organizations and individuals from all over the country, on Friday organized a "human chain" protest in Geneva in support of Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), in favor of the cessation of hostilities and the recognition of Artsakh's independence.
The huge human chain, with the participation of more than 500 people, stretched from the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to the United Nations headquarters. The demonstrators held torchlights procession, drawing the attention of the Swiss public and UN agencies to the Azerbaijani aggression, its genocidal intent, the deliberate targeting of civilians, destruction of cultural and religious monuments, gross violations of human rights and humanitarian law, the destabilizing engagement of Turkey and notorious terrorist organizations that it supports.
The protesters condemned the offensive unleashed on Artsakh, called for the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh's independence in order to ensure the existential security of its people from the ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Azerbaijan.
A number of parliamentarians and the socio-political figures of Switzerland participated in the protest. The event was supported by around 30 Swiss political parties and organizations, including the Christian Democratic People's Party of Switzerland, Green Party of Switzerland, The Socialist Party of Geneva, The People's Movement of Families, the Swiss League for Human Rights.
The Armenian community of Switzerland organized mass protests against the aggression of Azerbaijan also on October 3 in Bern and on October 8 in Zurich.
