‘Silence is genocide’: Armenians protest outside Italian Embassy
A group of people staged a protest in front of the Italian Embassy in Yerevan on Wednesday afternoon, calling for steps against the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression and urging Italy to recognize the Republic of Artsakh.
They demanded a meeting with representatives of the embassy.
The demonstrators performed the national anthem of Armenia and several patriotic songs in front of the embassy.
They were holding posters reading, “Silence is genocide!”, “Recognize Artsakh!”, “Human lives matter!” and others.
“The only thing we want is peace. And you see that they are not coming outside. We want an answer. Why are not they coming outside? Are we going to kill them? No, we are not Erdogan, we are not Aliyev, we are not mercenaries. We are Armenian people fighting against terrorism, we are fighting alone and are fighting for peace,” an angry demonstrator told reporters outside the embassy.
“They don’t do anything to help us and they don’t have any answer to give us. Who is going to give an answer to us when mercenaries, Turkish and Azerbaijani soldiers come to Armenia and try to commit another genocide,” she stressed.
Italy was among the five countries to block EU sanctions against Turkey initiated by Greece.
