Australia’s New South Wales officially recognizes independence of Artsakh
The largest parliamentary chamber in the largest state of Australia, the New South Wales Legislative Assembly has officially recognized the independence of the Republic of Artsakh, the Armenian National Committee of Australia reports.
Championed by Dr. Hugh McDermott MP: State Member for Prospect and supported by Mr. Victor Dominello MP on behalf of the Government, the motion which also condemned the current attacks by Azerbaijan and Turkey against the indigenous Armenians of Artsakh passed 61 votes to 2 votes.
Earlier the independence of Artsakh was recognized by the French town of Limonest, the city of Vienne and Italy’s Milan city.
In a statement on 18 October, the Artsakh Foreign Ministry stated that the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Artsakh would put an end to attempts of resolving the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict by force and would give the necessary impetus for the effective continuation of international mediation efforts within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.
