Russia's Foreign Ministry comments on possibility of CSTO interference in Karabakh conflict
As long as the fighting is taking place in the territory of Nagorno Karabakh, and has not expanded to the territory of Armenia, it is not correct to speak about the involvement of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Aleksandr Pankin told Ria Novosti news agency.
"The conflict has not moved to the territory [of Armenia], Armenia has not officially applied to the CSTO. The organization supports its member states when there is an explicit aggression. Since the matter is about Nagorno Karabakh, which is not recognized by Armenia as part of its territory and will be unlikely recognized, it is not correct to speak of using the defense potential of the CSTO," Pankin said.
