Sossi Tatikyan to UN: What happened to your objectives?
Independent Armenian consultant for public, foreign and security policy and administration, Sossi Tatikyan, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the United Nations’ failure to take action in order to stop the Azerbaijani military aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).
In a statement posted on Facebook on Friday, she reminded that October 24 is observed as the United Nations Day.
“I have celebrated your day every year for years, feeling proud that I have served you in various capacities in your Peace-keeping and Political Missions and Development Programmes in Kosovo, Timor-Leste, Central African Republic, Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia and finally, Armenia, in total for 10 years. I have always genuinely believed in your mandate and core values,” Tatikyan said.
“This year, I don't feel proud. Moreover, I feel ashamed that I have dedicated 10 years of my life to an organization that doesn't act to stop a large-scale military aggression against my nation, war launched in violation of the UN Charter, aimed against the right for life of Armenians in Nagorno Karabagh, against their self-determination right enshrined in your key Conventions on Civil and Political, and Social and Economic Rights, violations of international humanitarian and customary law, war crimes, use of ballistic missiles, UAVs and cluster munitions against civilian population.
What happened to your objectives to maintain regional and international security and stability, to protect and promote human rights, including that for self-determination, to prevent new genocides, not to allow yet another ethnic cleansing, responsibility to protect and "Leave No one Behind"?
I know your bureaucratic limitations generated by your rules and procedures quite well. However, I know your Charter, fundamental Conventions and Treaties even better, and I don't see how rules and procedures justify your lack of action when your core principles are being violated. It causes cognitive dissonance to me.
I am so relieved I stopped working for you 4 months ago since if I had stayed in the organization, I would not be able to contribute to my country and nation in any way in the critical situation it is facing. I would be forced to receive a high salary, do routine work without addressing the real needs and keep neutral. Or I would be fired for non-compliance with your social media guidelines or speaking out against your silence and inaction during meetings.
Dear United Nations, I hope that my frustration will be overcome, and you will finally act in line with your mandate and core values, demonstrating the integrity, respect for diversity and professionalism that you require from your staff members,” reads the statement.
